I am a first-time homeowner!

We chose a house that is recently remodelled and a relatively blank slate with beautiful bricks and bones. It’s a home in Detroit, and we love the Art Deco design in Detroit, so that’s my inspiration as we slowly add character and spunk to our home. Both of us have a preference for florals, so our design theme is Art Deco x Florals. I’m excited to document this ever-evolving project here.

Here’s the outside of the house when we bought it.

Here’s the outside now. It’s not much, but we planted sunflowers! Next step: staining the bricks and eventually a sun-room/covered porch.

Here’s that same wall inside the house, after adding vintage wallpaper and paint. The wallpaper is from the 40s and in limited supply, so it had to be used sparingly. With such a small amount, I added the edges with paint from the Sherwin-Williams Historic Collection “Jazz Age”.

The 2-D pieces on the walls are by talented friends of ours, Hannah Soderborg and Yi-Chin Lee.

Next step: painting the trim Alexandrite green.
